Adding central calendar!

Hi folks!

One thing about calendars is we don’t want to have to update 17 places for every event, but we want one place to see all the events coming up.

To that end, we set up the DCVariety website to import as many events as it can.
If you have a google calendar, and would like your shows and events to show up on the DCVariety website, (http://dcvariety.com/events/), email your info to mab@dcvariety.com or post it in the comments section below.

If you are a performer, and do not yet use google calendar, I highly recommend it.
1. You can import it to show up on your website
2. Other people/fans can add your calendar to their feed and see what shows you have coming up
3. And it syncs with yor phone and desktop and is accessible from nearly anywhere.

If you are interested in having your google calendar feed to the DCVariety.com website, we need this info!
Performer/group name: (as you want it to appear)
Brief description: (one sentence)
Tags you want associated with your event, in this case, Burlesque, Sideshow, etc. try to pick one as it will be associated with all your events.
And the ical url

HOW TO FIND THE ical url:
In the calendar list on the left side of the page, move your mouse over the calendar you’d like to export from.
You’ll see a drop-down arrow appear next to the calendar name. Click the drop-down arrow and select Calendar settings. (Alternatively, click the drop-down arrow next to My calendars and select Settings, then click the appropriate calendar from the list.)
click the “Calendar Details” tab on the left
next to Calendar Address: there are three options
xml ical and html
click the ical one and copy the url
that’s the url I want. send it to me or post it here
.

One of my December work projects was focused on refining DCVariety.  In the interest of keeping up with all the amazing things that happening in DC, I have created a way for you, the actual event promoter, to post your event on the DCVariety website! I was having a hard time keeping up with all the stuff everyone was doing, so I am cutting out the middle slow-poke man (me).

It’s EASY!
1. go here -> http://www.dcvariety.com/submit-your-event/
2. fill out the form & upload the flier image
3. All events will be reviewed, and posted within a day or two.

DONE! More press! Everybody wins!

I’m also looking for reviews! So if you see a lot of shows, and saw something you really liked, fill out the form!

Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions. We are always growing and learning.

DCVariety Show @ the Palace of Wonders!

Come out to the Palace of Wonders and see what DCVariety has uncovered this month!

Sexy and Sassy, Crude and Classy.

Long Shen: Kung Fu + Dance = BADASSERY!
Long Shen literally means Dragon God also is known in ancient Chinese mythology as the god of weather. In this incarnation he is an Asian Fusion dancer who is trained in Northern Shaolin Kung Fu. He is a humble student of Naimah, who has helped greatly in cultivating this art and combining Martial Arts with dance.

Shortstaxx: Burlesquery!
Staxx has been bumping and grinding, shimmying and peeling on DC and Baltimore stages for over 3 years. A stalwart of the local burlesque community, Shortstaxx is known for her unique, innovative, sometimes outrageous acts and comedic stage presence. Whether she’s Carmen twirling her tassels while in the throes of death, a burlesque Ramones pinhead or an oversized bedazzled flower blooming onstage, Shortstaxx is a steamy dish that’s sure to satisfy yet leave you begging for more!

Eva Brontosaurus: The best Dinosaur/Drag/Music Trio you will ever see.
Long, long ago, okay about 20-mumble, mumble years ago there was an 80s cover band called Eva Brontosaurus and they were totally braindead retarded. They played the gift shop/lounge of Dinosaurland, a roadside attraction with no rides and no animatronics just large, plaster statues of dinosaurs that were largely inaccurate. One fateful evening they decided to sneak a couple of Coors Lights from the meat locker in the back and they got locked in and were forgotten … until now! Ladies and Gentlemen – Eva Brontosaurus!

Eva Brontosaurus is the brain(fart) child of dragstress Lucrezia Blozia. Started in New York in the early aughts and continued in LA, the trio has shared the stage with the likes of Dirty Martini and Margaret Cho yet still somehow manages to remain unknown! Currently made up of Lucrezia Blozia, Blanca Chingamiga and Shortstaxx, Eva Brontosaurus is like a three beautiful woman version of Weird Al Yankovic only dirty, really dirty.

Special halftime games!
We have a brand new spot of mid-show entertainment: “Make Mab Laugh”
Do you think you have what it takes to make the Mistress of Misery, the Princess of Pain, the Jaded and Bitter Glasswalking Sideshow Girl, Mab, Just Mab crack a smile?
Try your luck, and your best material!
(And before you even think about, she’s not ticklish.)
Super-Fabulous-Amazing-Wondrous Prizes awarded to the winner!

When is all this happening?

I have been toying with the idea of starting a “New Artist Showcase” @ the Palace for a while now. I want to give performers who don’t know where to start a chance to show their stuff.

I have a few variety artists in mind, but I’m always on the look out for more. any suggestions?

any genera. jugglers, fire artists, dancers, burlesque, sideshow, circus, magic, comedy, etc.

also included are solo/duo variety musicians although I’m going to try to stay away from huge bands as there won’t be room for them on the stage, they take longer to set up, and there are already many venues for regular bands.

drop me an email if you are interested and please pass this on!
